VE Day Concert Review: A Moving and Fitting Tribute—Despite Uneven Performances from The Darkness and John Newman

The BBC’s VE Day concert may have been promoted as a star-studded spectacle, but it was the presence of the greatest generation that truly gave the evening its heart.

Among the most poignant moments was the appearance of the remarkable Harry Richardson, a former Bomber Command pilot, seated beside the King. At 107 years old, he remains a living testament to courage and resilience.

Equally moving was the story of Jeff Borsack, whose childhood tragedy touched the nation. Orphaned at the age of three when his parents were killed in a London bombing raid—while he lay in hospital with measles—his account brought visible tears to the eyes of the Princess of Wales.
